Shield Security did not have HR expertise in house and so the MD to maintain contracts and keep up with legislation.
An employment solicitor was used for specific HR issues, but this was proving costly and unreliable due to availability issues and a lack of empathy with the business. Shield’s Managing Director, Bipin Joshi, was keen to ensure they remained legally compliant, make all the employment paperwork and procedures fit for purpose before moving on to developing staff.
Having carried out an HR health check we used a traffic light structure to indicate to Shield where there were concerns. We then worked with them to agree the priorities and put together a 12 month HR plan.
We revised all their paperwork including a huge staff handbook and made sure that their contracts of employment were fit for purpose. This included researching some quirks around the security industry. We now have a regular review meeting every month to assess progress against the HR plan and agree ongoing activities. The plan is regularly updated and supplemented with ongoing support.
All contracts and supporting policies are fully compliant with the latest employment legislation. A cohesive approach has now been adopted throughout the business for all HR matters. An ongoing HR plan is in place for the business, to ensure that staffing is fit for purpose, not just now but to meet future demands.
