Introduction to Employment Law for Managers

Course description

An overview of key pieces of employment legislation to help people managers understand what they can and can’t do and to reduce risk in their people management practices. This session will provide an interesting and informative overview of many aspects of employment law, including the Contract of Employment, the basis for fair and unfair dismissals, the process for dealing with grievances and disciplinaries and the right to holiday and paid/unpaid time off. 

Aimed at those with little or no prior knowledge of employment law, as well as those who would like a refresher to ensure they are current, delegates will leave with plenty of practical advice and relevant information. 

Learner Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: 

• Know the main pieces of legislation that affect employing people in the UK
• Understand their responsibilities in relation to data protection and GDPR
• Plan shift patterns, rotas and overtime, in line with the Working Time Regulations
• Be aware of the contents of employment contracts and the actions/behaviours they need to enforce or uphold
• Know the protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2010 and their responsibilities around all aspects of management
