Course description

This module will help managers to identify poor performance, along with practical processes and techniques to resolve this informally.

Managers will learn when and how to escalate issues and take HR advice, as well as how to manage high performers by extending and challenging them through structured development plans, to increase engagement and motivation.

          Learner Objectives

          By the end of the session, participants will be able to: 

          • Understand the performance management cycle, and how to use Appraisals, 121s and interim meeting to address performance issues
          • Set and agree expectations and objectives through the use of SMART language  
          • Recognise when performance falls short of the required standards, and understanding what might cause the short fall  
          • Confidently address a performance issue through a series of informal meetings,  setting SMART objectives for improvement and reviewing regularly to monitor progress 
          • Know when to take HR advice and the formal steps that should be followed for a PIP
