As part of my occasional series of blog posts on time management, today I am going to share an idea with you to help reduce sleepless nights.
I don’t know about you, but I know that often if I am tossing and turning at night, it because I have too much on my mind. Invariably this is around having a list of tasks that I want to achieve – the trouble is then you can start worrying you are going to forget by the time morning comes.
I have found a very useful way to stop this is to finish off my working day with writing a to do list for the following day.
The To Do list, or action list, is a whole subject in itself which I will cover another day. However, getting down on paper, or computer, the list of tasks you want to achieve, can help to reduce the anxiety of forgetting, and be a good finish to the day.
There have been many words written about having a pad and pen by your bedside too, so if you do wake up in the night you can capture any thoughts. Of course, the trouble with that is that few of us can write in the dark… And turning the light on makes us particularly popular with our partner! A way around this is to have a tablet instead – these are back lit so by turning them on you can see to type a note or reminder.
A word of warning though, turn off email, or at least the volume or you will be kept awake with any annoying email reminders through the night instead!
