Whatever happens with Brexit, it is likely that businesses which employ staff from EU countries will face challenges once Britain leaves the EU. Staff retention, especially for those businesses which rely heavily on EU migrant workers, will be watching nervously to see if the final deal restricts the free movement of workers into the UK.

Just this week, it was reported that the NHS staffing crisis was worsened by the loss of almost 5,000 nurses and midwives from the EU27 countries – many of whom identified Brexit as the defining factor in their decision to quit. This may well be reflected in private sectors – particularly the food and agriculture businesses, whose trading patterns have been based around the single market, and construction, where there a high proportion of migrant workers.

Businesses should already be preparing for the possible outcomes, and they can find out more about the challenges they may face after Brexit in a free seminar hosted by Reality HR and law firm Herrington Carmichael.

The free Brexit – Supporting Your Staff seminar, to take place on May 14th at Reality HR’s Basingstoke offices, will offer advice from immigration specialists in Herrington Carmichael’s employment law team.

The session will provide guests with an update and review of the current position on Brexit, what it means for HR and what may happen next. In particular, the experts will look at the immigration measures in place to protect EU Nationals who want to continue to live and work in the UK, and their families.

Other topics will include the impact of a deal or no do deal scenario on HR practice, the EU Settlement Scheme, and the electronic “right to work check”.

It is our aim that following a tumultuous and unpredictable year for all businesses the session will provide valuable pointers for companies which employ EU Nationals and offer sound advice. We are grateful to Herrington Carmichael for partnering with us on what will be a very useful and practical session for businesses in the region.

The seminar takes place from 12.30pm to 2pm on Tuesday, May 14th at Reality HR’s offices at The Manor House, Lutyens Close, Basingstoke.A light lunch will be provided. To sign up, email: training@realityhr.co.uk
