We’ve talked before about the importance of building a relationship when interviewing. And how vital it is that the candidate and you are a good match for each other.
All candidates are likely to tell you how good they are at most aspects of the job, but how about taking a different tack?
Why not invite them to demonstrate their skills by bringing in their portfolio, or examples of how they have achieved success in the past. This is a great way to see candidates really come alive, and shows you what they are capable of.
A colleague who interviews teachers reports how much she loves seeing examples of great projects from teachers who are passionate about the results they have achieved with children. And how surprised she is that examples are not shown more often.
Of course, you could reverse this too, and put together some examples of what makes you a good employer. Think about ideas around career development, training and flexible working as good starting points.
