When we first started this blog, we talked about some of the myths surrounding us touchy feely HR folk. I thought it was about time I looked at a few more of these in the hope you recognise we are not all bad!

HR people never leave their office

Gosh – that’s not good. Are you sure you haven’t locked the door and thrown away the key?

Seriously, we believe the best way for HR to work in a business is developing relationships, and you’re not going to do that by shutting yourself away in an office all day. Of course, sometimes we need to have tricky conversations, in which case the office does come in handy.

HR are just policy police

We admit that you do need policies – but they should be tailored to the needs of your business, and really fit for purpose. For example – if you are a creative design agency jeans are probably perfectly acceptable, but it is unlikely the same applies in a high finance environment. And making sure your HR policies work in your business will reduce the chance of us beating you with a stick!

That said, we wouldn’t like you to think we’re obsessed with policies – there are many aspects of HR we’d rather be working on too.

HR don’t keep confidences

Ouch! You have had your fingers burnt! If you have HR people showing a lack of confidentiality in your business you need to take action straight away. If you need some help with that then give us a call.

We can assure you that anything you tell us remains between you and us. We stake our business reputation on delivering for our clients – it is never worth sacrificing.
