Outsourcing HRFollowing on from my last blog post when I suggested that some business owners recognise that some parts of the business are not suited to their personality, it makes sense to discuss outsourcing.

Outsourcing can be met with a variety of emotions by both business owners and staff, but the key to success is all in the selection.

Naturally you will carry out a shortlisting process:

  • Track record in outsourcing
  • Testimonials/recommendations
  • Service including delivery commitments
  • Skills and ability
  • Return on investment

You may have other parts to your process, but in essence that is the “hard” things, if you like, that you will need to tick off to make sure you are making a sound business decision.

The trouble is that to get outsourcing right I believe you need to tick some of the softer things too. And those rely more on gut instinct than the ability to tick off a list.

What I do mean by softer?

  • Do you find the outsourced company easy to communicate with?
  • Are they a good fit with your business?
  • Do you like the people you have met?
  • How much time do they plan to spend at your premises – dependent on how much you are outsourcing not all HR can be handled remotely
  • Do they understand what you want to achieve?
  • What support will there be for staff who need to talk to someone? If you remove HR completely from the business you will need a support network.
