We have been sharing information with our clients for some time about the essentials of auto enrolment. By the way, auto enrolment is just another name for a workplace pension.

However, it is clear from our newest clients they are concerned about what to do, and a lack of understanding.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • A lack of understanding is not going to be a defence – you will still be fined if you do nothing
  • Don’t try to coerce staff into opting out of auto enrolment – you risk being fined
  • The rules around when you need to have auto enrolment in place are different for each business – check out which is the right date for you here (this is known as your staging date)
  • Pension providers are reporting it is taking up to 6 months to put the scheme in place, so you need to take action quickly
  • This is not just an administrative task – you need to communicate with your team too
