Last week we talked about the importance of employee feedback and how to ask your questions the right way.

I suggested that you ask the same questions on a frequent month to month basis so that you start to develop confidence in your employees, make them feel engaged and to get them thinking proactively too.

So let’s look at what questions to ask each month:

  • Is there something we can be doing to support your success? – By letting an employee know that you are interested in their personal goals and success and are there for them, they will remain motivated and it will improve their job satisfaction. It is a great way to make sure employees are always improving and thinking about their own productivity.
  • What are you finding the most challenging right now? – Managers need to be there for their employees and their employees need to know that they can rely on them when the going gets tough. Asking this question ensures that employees improve and will also help identify any areas of tension.
  • What have you done this month that you are proud of? – This is a great question to give employees a chance to talk about what they are doing well and gives valuable insight into their personality. It helps employees stay engaged because everyone wants to feel like they are accomplishing things and feel a sense of pride in their work.  Focussing on failures will slowly make an employee lose confidence and enthusiasm.
  • Is there a product or service that we could improve? – Managers need to use all of the valuable insight that employees gather through working throughout different layers of a business, especially if they work with clients/ customers regularly. In order to stay in the loop and keep on top of your game, ask your employees for their thoughts regularly.

There are also a lot of questions that you should never ask, like looking for someone to blame when something goes wrong. It is easy to demoralize your team and create unnecessary barriers.
